Trauma Care

trauma1.jpg

Several studies focus on the improvement of patient care in both pre-hospital and in-hospital settings. One study involves collection of vital signs data in trauma patients transported from the scene of their injury through resuscitation at the Shock Trauma Center. The objectives of this and related research are to determine trauma patient outcomes and identify therapeutic interventions. This work may result in decision aids for military and civilian pre-hospital providers to improve the quality of pre-hospital care, identify emergency surgery needs before hospital arrival and increase survivability for the seriously injured.

In other projects, new technologies such as mobile wireless and hand-held devices are tested to assess and monitor patient injuries from the scene of injury through admission to an emergency facility.
