Strategic Plans
The MRCN has developed four strategic plans: cancer research, cancer research training, cancer education and the cancer policy plan.
The Cancer Research Plan will conduct community-based participatory research on prevention and control, clinical, behavioral and health services research, improve the quality of training opportunities for minority scientists in cancer research, and increase the number of faculty conducting community-based participatory research at the UMSOM and UMB. This plan will develop, implement and evaluate an intensive integrated research and community outreach program involving the UMSOM, UMES and regional community partners.
The Cancer Research Training Plan will develop and implement training programs in community-based participatory research, by increasing the awareness of students and faculty of cancer health disparities in Maryland through professional development opportunities, increase the number of minority investigators engaged in participatory research training experiences and increase the rate of involvement of faculty, students and community partners involved in continuing education activities.
The Cancer Education Plan aims to develop new and adapt existing evidence-based education, outreach and services for use in the targeted regional communities and evaluate the impact of the education and outreach efforts in changing knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors.
The Cancer Policy Plan will produce evidence based data that can be utilized by policy makers to develop effective science guided policies aimed at reducing health disparities and leverage additional resources to support CNP research, education, and outreach, and policy formulation and analysis.
