SOM Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Instructions

The Virtual Private Network (VPN) lets you securely access many assets on the School of Medicine’s network from a remote location. You can only access IRIS, Teleform data and data in the PHI Zone through the VPN.

The School of Medicine (SOM) Office of Information Services grants VPN access. The SOM Help Desk provides client software, VPN logon accounts and assigns/resets passwords. Contact information for the Help Desk appears at the end of this document.

Installing VPN Client Software

VPN Client software comes pre-configured on a CD. It installs itself on a Windows 2000 or XP computer. A separate CD is available for the MAC.

After installation, you should see a VPN icon like this one on your desktop:

Logging On

Double-click on the VPN icon. If that icon does not appear on your desktop, go to

Enter your USERNAME and password. Click OK and the box will disappear. You will see a message only if the logon fails. You can tell your login status by looking at the VPN icon in the system tray at the bottom right corner of your screen.

A closed lock icon vpn2.jpg - 4429 Bytes means you are connected to the VPN. An open lock icon vpn3.jpg - 4555 Bytes means you are NOT.
