What is Mobile Device Management (MDM) ?

Mobile device management (MDM) is an industry term for the administration of mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablet computers, laptops and desktop computers. MDM is usually implemented with the use of a third party product that has management features for particular vendors of mobile devices.

What is Microsoft Intune Mobile Device Managment (MDM) ?

Microsoft Intune provides mobile device management, mobile application management, and PC management capabilities from the cloud. Using Intune, organizations can provide their employees with access to corporate applications, data, and resources from virtually anywhere on almost any device, while helping to keep corporate information secure.

SOM Office of Information Services uses a Microsoft application named Intune to be in compliance with the SOM Policy on Mobile Device Management.  Soon, in order for any mobile device to connect to SOM Office of Information Services resource, such as email or OneDrive for Business, the mobile device will first need to be enrolled in Intune and compliant.
