Personal History
Dr. Weiss joined the faculty at the University of Maryland in April 2006, after spending 16 years on the faculty at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine. Dr. Weiss worked at Charity Hospital in New Orleans until its closure following Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. He then worked in medical tents in New Orleans until March 2006. He had a part-time legal practice, representing emergency physicians in medical malpractice litigation, and lectured at the LSU School of Law. Dr. Weiss has a career-long interest in organized medicine, having served as President of the Orleans Parish Medical Society and as Vice President of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM). Dr. Weiss will begin a two-year term as AAEM President in February 2008.
