Personal HistoryMatthew Cooper joined the University of Maryland in 2005 as an Associate Professor of Surgery as the Director of Clinical Research in the Division of Transplantation. Cooper received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his residency training at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed a multi-organ transplant fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2002 and then joined the faculty there as an Assistant Professor of Surgery. He was surgical director of renal transplantation and clinical research before coming to the University of Maryland.Research InterestsClinical research in immunosuppressive protocols, increasing opportunities for live donation and improvement in long term outcomes for transplant recipients through various novel immunosuppressive therapies.
