Research Interests:

In collaboration with our cardiac surgery colleagues we are designing and testing “hybrid” approaches to coronary revascularization.  In the cardiac catheterization lab we are investigating coronary plaque characteristics in patients with end stage renal disease using intracoronary ultrasound and biomarkers.  In addition, we are in the early stages of a project which will examine differential gene expression in atherosclerosis prone and atherosclerosis resistant human arteries.  This latter project is being carried out in collaboration with the Center for Vascular and Inflammatory Diseases and cardiac surgery.

Clinical Speciality:

My major clinical focus is interventional cardiology.  Our lab provides invasive diagnostic and interventional therapeutic care for the entire range of clinical cardiac pathology, most prominently ischemic heart disease and congestive heart failure with an expanding focus on structural and valvular heart disease.  I also have an active outpatient consultative practice in general cardiology with a focus on ischemic heart disease.

The cardiac catheterization lab and outpatient practice setting are geared toward teaching students, residents and fellows the practical and theoretical aspects of cardiology including observational, hands on, and didactic instruction.
