  • M.S., Epidemiology, Harvard School of Public Health, Cambridge, Massachusetts
  • Internship and Residency in Medicine, The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, New York, New York

Research Interests:

Dr. Perencevich is an infectious disease physician and epidemiologist studying emerging pathogens and nosocomial infections. His research focuses on the transmission dynamics of nosocomial pathogens, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Clostridium difficile and vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE). He is particularly interested in identifying the most effective and cost-effective methods for controlling these pathogens. With David Hartley and Holly Gaff, he is working on mathematical models of MRSA transmission in ICU, hospital and city populations. In addition he is collaborating with Jon Furuno and Anthony Harris on developing prediction rules for cost-effective identification of MRSA and VRE carriage on hospital admission. He is currently funded through the VA Health Services Research & Development’s Advanced Career Development Award and a VA Merit award titled "Predicting Antibiotic Resistant Bacterial Carriage at Hospital Admission." Dr. Perencevich has over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and is lead author on a national guideline recommending methods for determining the economic impact of infection control interventions.
