Personal HistoryDr. Valentine is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Behavioral and Developmental Pediatrics at the University of Maryland. He is board certified in both General Pediatrics and Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. Dr. Valentine completed his undergraduate studies at The University of the West Indies School of Medicine in Kingston, Jamaica and residency in General Pediatrics at the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1983. He then completed a fellowship program in Child Psychiatry also at the University of Miami, before entering private practice in Miami Beach. He later joined the staff at Brockton Hospital in Massachusetts as Assistant Chief of Pediatrics and Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Boston University School of Medicine then returned to Florida and was appointed Medical Director of the Child Protection Team for Broward County and Medical Director for Human Services in the Broward County Government. He then completed a fellowship in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Georgetown University School of Medicine and was appointed Director of Developmental Pediatric Services, Consultant in Developmental Medicine and Medical Director of the Lead Treatment Program at Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore. He left full time practice at Mount Washington in June of 2004 to open the Center for Pediatric and Developmental Medicine in Anne Arundel County and at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Southern Maryland. Dr. Valentine closed the center in the summer of 2009 and has been a full time faculty member at the University of Maryland since September of 2009.
