Personal History
Mrs. Patton is an Instructor in the University of Maryland School of Medicine's Department of Medical and Research Technology. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland in Biological Sciences/Microbiology, and her Master of Science degree from the University of Maryland in Biochemistry. Her clinical training was completed at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., with certifications in Medical Technology and Clinical /Public Health Microbiology completed in 1984 and 1986, respectively. She has worked in a variety of settings, including hospital, reference and physician’s office laboratories prior to coming to the Department in September 2001. She is currently pursuing a second Master of Science degree in Instructional Technology from Towson State University. Mrs. Patton is the course coordinator for both MEDT 321 Introduction to Laboratory Techniques and MEDT 491 Clinical Immunology. She has served as Principle Investigator on two DMRT clinical trials, and recently completed work with other faculty on a Western Maryland Area Health Education Project grant. Professional interests include online education, autoimmune and infectious diseases, asthma and allergy. A member of five professional societies, she is most active in the American Society for Clinical Pathology, currently serving as a state representative to the ASCP Associate Council.
