Research Interests:

Dr. Yang is interested in the molecular and cellular biology of the regulation of energy metabolism. By high throughput sequencing of cDNA libraries from adipose tissue and bioinformatics, his research team has identified several novel adipose tissue specific genes such as omentin, serum amyloid A.  His current research is to further characterize these novel adipokines and to define their relevance to energy metabolism and inflammation by studying their gene expression, regulation and their functions using a variety of approaches including real time PCR, microarray, genomics, proteomic, gene over-expression and gene silence in cultured cells and in transgenic or knockout mouse models.
