Research Interests:Dr. Luzina’s research focuses on the role of immune and inflammatory cells – specifically T lymphocytes and macrophages – in autoimmune processes, with an emphasis on lupus and systemic sclerosis. She conducts her studies in animal models of autoimmunity and in patients with autoimmune diseases, as well as in cell culture utilizing modern molecular biology approaches. Dr. Luzina investigates the disturbances in expression of pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic cytokines, chemokines and cell surface molecules, as well as changes in the intracellular signaling pathways caused by inflammation and autoimmunity. The ultimate goal of these studies is to identify and characterize potential molecular targets for future anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic therapies.
