Personal History:

Dr. Badiyan is a native of Texas where he attended the Texas Academy of Math and Science and graduated from the University of Texas summa cum laude with a B.S. in Neurobiology. He then graduated with honors from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed his radiation oncology residency at the prestigious Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University in St Louis and spent a year practicing advanced proton therapy techniques at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland. Dr. Badiyan has received several academic excellence, research and travel awards during his residency including the 2014 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Roentgen Resident/Fellow Award for outstanding radiologic research and the American Brachytherapy Society Resident Travel Grant Award.

Research Interests:

Dr. Badiyan's research interests involve the use of advanced radiation therapy techniques, including proton therapy, to treat mobile tumors, as well as the use of proton therapy to treat cancers of the breast and thorax while reducing the side effects of radiation to the heart and lungs. He is actively involved in the development of clinical trials at the Maryland Proton Treatment Center in Baltimore.

His expertise is the use intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image guided radiation therapy (IGRT), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), and proton therapy for the treatment of cancer.
