Personal History:

Dr. Kazi received his Ph.D. from Kent State University, Ohio in condensed matter theory. Driven by a few encounters with cancers in his family he became interested to become a Medical Physicist and enrolled himself in a two year NCI Post-Doctoral training at Yale University School of Medicine. During this period he worked using water calorimeter and developed a strong foundation in absolute radiation dosimetry which led him to be a recipient of Farrington Daniel award offered by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM).

He is an American Board of Radiology (ABR) Certified Medical Physicist with 20+ years of medical physics experience. He joined the University of Maryland School Of Medicine in 2013 as Chief of the MCART (Medical Countermeasures Against Radiation Threats) Radiation Physics Core.

Research Interests:

  • Standardization of dosimetry practices among MACRT consortium
  • Use of OSLD (Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dosimeter) to conduct remote dosimetry auditing
  • Use of gafchromic film as a dosimeter to conduct remote dosimetry auditing
  • Use of gafchromic film to acquire portal images for small animal irradiation
