Dr Mavanur graduated from a medical school in Mumbai, India with the degree of MBBS in 1991. She then completed dermatology residency also from University of Mumbai in 1994. She moved to United Kingdom in 1996 & continued her career in dermatology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, KingsLynn. She became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of United Kingdom (MRCP) after successfully completing the required examination in 2001. Dr Mavanur moved to United States in 2002, completed Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Connecticut in 2006. She did a two year nephrology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh followed by an additional year of transplant fellowship there, graduating in 2010. She was a Hospitalist at the Medstar Montgomery Medical center, Olney,MD prior to starting her current job at University of Maryland in August 2012.
Dr Mavanur`s areas of interest include kidney and pancreas transplantation. In light of her prior training in dermatology, she plans to do clinical research in cutaneous lesions in transplant patients, particularly skin malignancies. During her fellowship she published a review article on sleep disordered breathing in chronic kidney diseases, which also remains her area of interest. As the medical director of transitional care center she plans to lead a systematic transition of care from inpatient to the outpatient settings for our transplant patients.
