Carole Norris-Shortle, LCSW-C, LCMFT, , University of maryland, Balitmore, School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, Senior Social Worker and Supervisor for Taghi Modarressi Center for Infant Study/Secure Starts for the last 25 years. For 12 years she work collaboratively with PACT:Helping Children with Special Needs (Kennedy Krieger Institute program) as mental healtlh consultant working with families and babies in shelter and who are inadequately house. She is also a nationally recognized trainer in NCAST-an evidenced based clincial and assessment tool for looking at quality of parent/child interaction. In addition she is a Licensed Family Therapist who trained with Jay Haley and Cloe Madanes and Stanely Siegel(Ackerman Institute). She is a Resgistered Play Therapy Supervisor (trained by Eliana Gil) with special interest in Theraplay and Sand Tray Therapy. Ms. Norris has been a field instructor for MSW graduated students for 30 years, and has also served as prceptor supervisor for graduate nursing, psychology, special education, family therapy interns and psychiatric fellows in child psychiatry. She has trained in many areas of infant mental health and attachment around the state of Maryland.
Research InterestsResearch Coordinator for 5 1/2 year research project that is evaluating the effectiveness of the attachment-based early mental health intervention project for homeless babies and their families that has been implemented in the PACT Therapeutic Nursery, inner-city Baltimore. This project has been approved by both University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins IRBs. It currently has a sample size of 210 families and has resulted in two professional journal articles to date.
Clinical SpecialityA Certified NCAST Instructor and Registered Play Therapy Supervisor, Ms. Norris-Shortle has done clinical work and training in Infant Mental Health for the last 25 years through the Center for Infant Study. She is currently focused on attachment work in the PACT Therapeutic Nursery, assisting homeless babies and their parents.
