Dr. Jani is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and a Pediatrician, and she holds a joint appointment as an Associate Professor in both the departments of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the Georgetown University Medical Center and at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Currently she is serving as a Chief Medical Officer of Maple Shade Treatment Services in Mardela Springs, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She is intimately involved with direct care services to severely emotionally disturbed youth and actively participates in the program development of child mental health services for Maple Shade and Howard County General Hospital, an affiliate of the Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Dr. Jani was born and raised in India. She received her General Psychiatry training at the Indiana University in Indianapolis; she further trained at the Johns Hopkins University to sub-specialize in the field of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She was trained as a Pediatrician at the University of Maryland. She is a Board-certified General Psychiatrist, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Pediatrician, Board-certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine, a Board-ertified Medical Review Officer and Diplomat of the American College of Forensic Medicine certified by the American College of Forensic Examiners. All Six Board Certifications! She is a Fellow of American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Fellow of American Academy of Pediatrics.
She has been a consultant to the Family Preservation Initiative, now known as the Family League of Baltimore; on the Advisory Board of Family Involved Together (FIT Program), ChADD and various other groups to support the community-based placement of children with special needs. She was regional Medical Director for the Devereux Foundation for the States of Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware and the District of Columbia. She served as a Medical Director at Riverside Hospital in Washington DC from 1999 to 2005. She is an active researcher and has authored numerous papers. She has a book under publication. She has presented several workshops on Child Psychopharmacology, Psychiatric Emergencies, ADHD refusal and Anxiety Disorders and Post Traumatic Stress disorder. Her new area of interest is milieu therapy and managing restraint-free milieus in RTC, group homes and expanding it to parenting styles in families. Some of her techniques have also been used in classroom settings.
However, among all her achievements and honors, she views motherhood as the most valued achievement. She is mother of three children, Suni, Raja and Roma, and is married to a neurologist/Psychiatrist Niru Jani M.D.
