Dr. Bafford is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the division of General Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, specializing in general and colorectal surgery. She is affiliated with the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center and the University of Maryland Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Program. She treats patients at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) University, Midtown, and St Joseph Medical Center campuses.
Dr. Bafford received her Medical Degree from Washington University School of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency in General Surgery at Brigham & Women’s Hospital/ Harvard Medical School. She then completed a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
Dr. Bafford's areas of expertise include laparoscopic and robotic colon and rectal surgery, surgical treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, sphincter-sparing surgery for colorectal cancer, minimally invasive surgery for diverticulitis, treatment of anorectal disorders, and screening and therapeutic colonoscopy. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. She was recognized as a "Top Doc" by Baltimore magazine in 2012 and 2014.
Dr. Bafford’s research interests are in the microbiology and surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease.
