Personal History:Graduated from Tambaza Secondary School in 1994 with a high school diploma, and secured a 6 year scholarship to Peoples Republic of China, where I took a 1 year course in Mandarin at Beijing Language institute (currently Beijing Language and culture University) before joining Shanghai Medical University (currently Fudan University Medical Center). I graduated with MBBS degree from Shanghai Medical University in 2001. After a compulsory internship I joined a small hospital in Dar es Salaam city center before landing in PASADA which is HIV center in Dar es salaam. Working with PASADA, increased my interest in providing a high quality clinical interventions towards deadly diseases in resource limited settings, through sharing knowledge and mentoring.
I joined Institute of Human virology’s global programs team in Tanzania in 2007 as a medical doctor providing technical support to the local partner treatment facilities. Working hand in hand with colleagues in local partner treatment facilities in improving the quality of care provided to people infected with HIV through learning along with real time patient care. I had an opportunity to emphasize comprehensive continuum of care for the patient from the health facility to homes and communities. My work renewed my interest in looking for public interventions but now for a specific group of people living with HIV.
I joined Dartmouth College’s Dartmouth institute (TDI) for a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree and graduated in June 2011.
Research Interests:My interests include ART delivery in limited resource settings, tuberculosis, early mortality, and patients lost to follow-up. Treatment of HIV infection can be effective only if patients are retained in care over time. Conversely, the scale-up of HIV services has occurred in settings wherein patients face substantial resource, social, and geographical challenges to their ability to maintain continuous connectivity with the health care system.
Clinical Speciality:Medicine, Infectious Disease
