Personal History:

Dr. Yerges-Armstrong completed her PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health in 2008. She came to the University of Maryland in 2009 to complete a postdoctoral fellowship in the Division of Endocrinology Diabetes, and Nutrition and then joined the Department of Medicine faculty at the University of Maryland in 2012.

Research Interests:

Dr. Yerges-Armstrong is an epidemiologist whose research focus is the molecular epidemiology of complex diseases. Throughout her career she has worked on a number of large epidemiological studies of aging and musculoskeletal health including the Study of Osteoporotic Fractures in Women (SOF), the Osteoporotic Fracutres in Men Study (MrOS), the Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI) and the Baltimore Hip Studies (BHS) projects. In addition to her work on skeletal health, Dr. Yerges-Armstrong is actively involved in projects from the Amish research program addressing the genetic underpinnings of dyslipidemia, body composition, coronary artery calcification, response to anti-platelet interventions and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. As part of this research, she has worked with a number of consortia efforts including: the Genetics of Liver Disease (GOLD) consortium, the Genetic Factors for Osteoporosis (GEFOS) consortium, the Cohorts of Heart and Aging Research in Genetic Epidemiology (CHARGE) musculoskeletal group, the Reproductive Genetics (ReproGen) consortium and the Study of Underlying Genetic Determinants of Vitamin D and Highly Related Traits (Sunlight) consortium. Dr. Yerges-Armstrong is also involved in other molecular epidemiology projects in the Amish. This includes an Amish exome sequencing project, a gene expression project focusing on longevity in the Amish and a metabolomics analysis evaluating differences in anti-platelet efficacy in healthy Amish individuals.
