Dr. Strauss is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center, where he is conducting research on emotion and motivation in individuals with schizophrenia.
Research Interests
Dr. Strauss’ research focuses on the etiology, assessment, and treatment of negative symptoms in schizophrenia. His recent studies examine emotion and motivation using a combination of behavioral, genetic, eye-tracking, and event related potential techniques.Clinical Speciality
Adult Clinical Neuropsychology; Cognitive Behavioral TherapyLab Techniques and Equipment

Grants & Contracts:
Motivated Attention and Avolition in Individuals with Schizophrenia1K23MH092530-01
(PI: GP Strauss)
10/01/10 - 09/30/2015
NIMH $719,991
The study examines early emotion processing abnormalities in schizophrenia, and attempts to identify precise cognitive mechanisms that contribute to abnormal attention-emotion interactions in schizophrenia. Career development activities include training in Event Related Potential and Eye-Tracking technology, as well as the theoretical basis of cognitive/affective neuroscience.
Oxytocin and Social Cognition in Schizophrenia
MIRECC Pilot Grant (PI: GP Strauss)
10/01/2011 to 09/30/2012
$25,000
The study examines the relationship between plasma oxytocin levels and measures of social cognition, emotional experience, emotion perception, and emotional memory in schizophrenia.
