Personal History
Dr. Benitez graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and subsequently completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the
Dr. Benitez was board certified in Cardiovascular Disease in 1991, and has remained on Faculty within the Division of Cardiology since that time. He has been active in the
Clinical Speciality
Dr. Benitez is a general clinical cardiologist with an active outpatient practice, and in-patient responsibilities on the consult service and Cardiac Care Units, and he participates in all aspects of the echocardiography lab, and continues to perform diagnostic catheterization. He has twice been awarded the Department of Medicine’s Distinguished teaching award for his role in the education of the residents. He also remains active in teaching within the medical school in both large group and small-group formats.
Dr. Benitez is the Program Director for Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship, which is the largest fellowship program within the Department of Medicine. His responsibilities for this include the oversight of both administration and education, along with selection of fellow candidates and mentorship of the fellows during their education and training.
