Dr. Emily Bellavance is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the division of Surgical Oncology at the University Of Maryland School of Medicine, specializing the treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the breast with a focus on oncoplastic surgery for breast cancer patients, prophylactic mastectomy for high risk patients, and nipple sparing mastectomy.
Dr. Bellavance received her Medical Degree from University of Maryland School of Medicine, where she also completed a residency. Dr. Bellavance completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the University of Chicago as well as a fellowship in clinical medical ethics at the MacLean Center of Medical Ethics in Chicago. She serves on national committees such as the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Breast Prevention Team and the Ethics Committee.
Dr. Bellavance's research interests include neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatment for breast cancer, communication and medical decision making in breast cancer treatment, ethical issues in breast surgery and surgical oncology. She was recently awarded a grant by the National Center for Health Research to the communication of treatment options to women diagnosed with an abnormal breast biopsy.
