Personal History:Dr. Plotnick’s major interest involves medical education at all levels throughout the medical school. He has won the “Golden Apple” Best Faculty Award nine times from the graduating medical school class; the Founder’s Day “Teacher of the Year” Award from the UMAB campus; and the Theodore E. Woodward Award for Excellence in Teaching from the American College of Physicians. Dr. Plotnick is Co-Director of the Sophomore Pathophysiology and Therapeutics course involving two-thirds of the Sophomore year, teaches the Junior students on their Internal Medicine rotation weekly and oversees the cardiology senior elective, teaching EKG interpretation.
Research Interests:Dr. Plotnick's area of expertise is in the field of echocardiography. He has been active in the national American Society of Echocardiography, having served on the Board of Directors, numerous other committees and as speaker and sessions chair at the National meeting. Dr. Plotnick’s research is in the area of brachial artery vasoactivity as a measure of endothelial function and patent foramen ovale as a cause of stroke. He is co-author of two books on echocardiography and one on unstable angina.
